For all those thinking about visiting San Francisco, better act quick! Next month is good time to come! Many events and festivals are happening in May, not to mention this year our Golden Gate Bridge is celebrating its 75th Anniversary!

Without further adieu, here are some of the festivals & events in May!

1. Treasure Island Flea Market

  • Dates: April 28 – 29, 2012, and May 26 – 27, 2012
  • Time: 9am – 4pm (Dog Friendly Months – Well behaved pooches on leases Welcome!)
  • Location: Treasure Island

You might have heard about Treasure Island and its history in the bay area, but how about seeing it in festive mode?

The Treasure Island Flea happens once a month, showcasing hundreds of local exhibitors. Wide range of items will be on exhibits and on sale: from antiques to vintage clothing, French garden pieces to re-purpose and up-cycled goods, and gourmet food vendors to the best of the California wine. A good event for families and friends who loves treasure hunting. Also don’t forget your camera when the weather is good: the view of San Francisco from Treasure Island is amazing~~

2. How Weird Street Faire

  • Date: May 13th from Noon to 8pm
  • Time: Noon to 8pm
  • Location: Second St. and Howard St., San Francisco, CA, 94105 (2 blocks away from Muni’s New Montgomery Station)

If you love dancing, music, and alternative culture, this is the event not to miss! (A very good event for photographers too!!!). Taking place in the downtown of San Francisco, the How Weird Street Faire will have 13 stages of music and performances spread throughout 13 city blocks. At the faire you will being partying with fairies, goblins, hippies, and more.This year the dance music stages features Symbiosis, Raindance, Sunset Music, Forward SF, Opel, Opulent Temple, Muti Music, and many more. The How Weird Street Faire is a project of, and fundraiser for, the local non-profit World Peace Through Technology Organization (Click Here for Past Post)

3.The 34th Annual San Francisco Carnaval

  • Date: May 26and May 27
  • Time: 10:00am
  • Location: Harrison Street, Mission District of San Francisco, CA

San Francisco Cultural Arts Traditions (SFCAT) proudly presents California’s largest annual multi-cultural celebrations, San Francisco Carnaval 2012. At San Francisco Carnaval Grand Parade May 27 (starts at 9:30am), the theme, “Spanning Borders; Bridging Cultures,” will be presented by the colorful floats, lavishly dressed performers, musicians from different cultures as they party through the Mission District.

Disabled parking is located at 18th and Treat Streets in PG&E lot.

4. Golden Gate Festival

  • Date: May 27, 2012
  • Time: TBA
  • Location: All the festivities will be spread out as follows ->

•    Presidio – photography exhibit on military history at the Golden Gate
•    Fort Mason Center – Outdoor art installation (also open Saturday)
•    Ghirardelli Square – Panel exhibit telling the story of the Golden Gate Bridge
•    San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park – Tours aboard the Alma, music, photo displays & vintage cars (also open Saturday)
•    Fisherman’s Wharf – Music, historic images, vintage automobiles and maritime history
•    Pier 39 – Music and dance festival highlighting the 1930s
•    Art installations at Fort Point (also open Saturday)
•    Bridge-related art show at SFMOMA’s facility at Fort Mason Center
•    Film night in the Presidio with movies featuring the Bridge (Saturday evening)

Happy birthday Golden Gate Bridge! 2012 is a festive year for the beloved Golden Gate Bridge as it celebrates its 75th Anniversary. A good event for families with young children, Golden Gate Festival includes many activities around San Francisco such as: educational presentations, a display of cars from 1937 to the present, historic watercraft parade, music and dance stages, art installations, and films. Details of exact time for each activity will be release later in April!

5. Off the Grid: Fort Mason Center

  • Date: Every Friday
  • Time: 5pm-10pm
  • Location: Fort Mason

Looking for that unique, somewhat quirky and creative food experience? If you like the idea of mac n cheese spring rolls, super-sized dumplings, and peking duck musubi, then Off the Grid Food Truck Festival is the place to be! Every Friday at For Mason, food trucks serving cuisines from all different countries gather to satisfy the hungry souls in San Francisco. Go early if you want some good small eats!
