Elegant, classic, adrenaline, power, obsession, passion. Those are the words that would describe my hot, steamy weekend with Porsche Rennsport Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
This was the first time ever that Porsche has a Rennsport Reunion event here in California. During this event, all the car collectors, racers, and fans are invited to come, showcase their beloved Porsche cars, race on the track, and meet each other in the community. It included over 300 Porsche cars on display, 50 different drivers for autograph sessions, and the debut of the new Porsche 911. It is not just any cars that are on the track, many of them are historical race cars that use to be in Formula races or other professional racing series also. Jerry Seinfeld was there as the co-Marshal, along with the exhibition of the car sample from the movie “Cars” by Pixar Studio that spiced up the event.
The new 911, the RS Spyder cars, and all made me felt slightly dizzy and blinded because I have never seen so many Porsche cars in my life at the same place. There were Porsche cars on the track, in garages, on the exhibition ground, in 1/3 of all the parking lot spots, and also everywhere in Monterey hotels’ parking lots that weekend. I really was questioning my sanity and if I was in a dream with all the pretty cars right in front of me. Not to mention I also wondered how I was going to cope with “hot car withdraw” symptom when I have to drive back out to the normal streets of California on Sunday afternoon.
I have always loved motorsports, and it was an honor to spent 4 days here on the track watching from the private photo shoots, press meetings, to the exhibits and the race. (Also made new friends here from all over the world during this weekend =D)
Please, come enjoy part of my 4 day car feast that will make you go “gaga” with a fast, pounding heart.
Wow, this looks like a great event! I would have especially liked the older vintage cars.
It is a great event for the vintage cars. They first have the special ones in the garages for display with the history, model type/name, and year it was created, then add on to it are the individual collectors & drivers who brought in their own cars for the event. Great thing is that most of the time when you ask, they will open the car door and let you sit in it too =D
You would have loved the last city I lived in, Stuttgart, Germany, Posrche’s headquarters and home to a huge Porsche museum.
O_O woooooo ~~ that would be a fun place to visit!! I did not know they have a museum too ❤
I don’t drive and have no enthusiasm for cars or motor sports generally so this post might well have been lost on me, except that for some reason I ADORE vintage cars, whether Porsche or otherwise. If I could have one, that would get me on the road for sure.
What I liked about this event was that you can see not only all the vintage cars on display from Porsche collectors, but you can see the technical crews working on the cars and watch how the cars run on the race track. It is like reviving a piece of history that many thought they would not see again. =) I hope more car companies do vintage car shows and races like this one.
Love that photo of the car wheel- really awesome shot!
Thank you ! The crews working at the time were nice enough to let me hang around them really close and not kick me out XD
I’m not into fancy sports cars, but these are pretty cool photos.
Thank you ^^ I hope I can slowly spark an interest in people about vintage and new motorsports ~ (Oops, accidentally spilled out my evil plan)
Those cars are pretty amazing. Even though I am a guy, I’ve never had a love of cars. But I know many people enjoy looking at classics and race cars like these! Had no idea there was an event like this in California!
^_^ If you ever got a spark of interest in attending an event like this, you can check out Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s website for calender. If you are bringing family, I think MotoGP (Motorcycle race) is a fun event to go to because they have a lot more kids activities than other events (like kids can ride on mini motorcycles, take photos with racing motorcycles..) and do go to the actual race day/usually Sunday.
My dad LOVES porsches (he used to restore old ones) – he would have gotten such a kick out of this!
O_O !! wow your dad is cool!! I am sorry he missed this event, it was quite fun and lots of historical cars. There are more events like these coming in 2012 though. You can always check Mazda Raceway’s website (http://www.mazdaraceway.com/) for more details about future events, and I think they have another similar event (though not Porsche) called Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. ^_^
